3 Tips for Finding Cheap Airfare as a Student

Living as an international student in the USA can provide you with many opportunities to travel. Whether that is travelling back to your home country during a holiday break or exploring a new city during spring break, travelling is an exciting possibility. Luckily, your airfare doesn’t have to break the bank. Here are three tips for finding cheap airfare as a student:

Be Selective About Search Engines

There are a plethora of websites that allow you to search for flights, but they’re not all created equal. There are some airfare search engines that will not show you the cheapest flight because they don’t have a contractual agreement to have the airline listed in their search engine. For example, many budget airlines don’t show up in big name airfare search engines. Instead, use independent and unbiased airfare search engines sites like momondo.com, and skyscanner.com to truly find the cheapst flights.

Be Flexible on Travel Dates

Sometimes there can be very little flexibility in your schedule as a student, but being flexible on the days you decide to travel can save you a lot of money. Fridays and Mondays tend to be more expensive days to travel, whereas Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be the cheapest. When searching for a flight, try using the flexible dates option as this can show you whether it is cheaper to travel a day before or after your intended travel dates.

Take Advantage of Being A Student

Being a student does have its perks; there are many discounts just for students, like StudentUniverse.com. StudentUniverse negotiates hundreds of deals on airfare, hotels, hostels, and tour providers, for students aged 18-25. They also have a promo code page where you can save anywhere from $20-$50 based on certain requirements.
