My Winter Break Kick-off: New Beginnings and Exploration

A Winter Break Journey of Discovery and Fresh Starts

Winter break is often a time of relaxation, celebration, and perhaps a bit of adventure. For me, this winter break marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life — one filled with excitement, laughter, and unforgettable experiences.

Moving Out and Starting My New Life

Since I started my journey in the U.S. as an international student, I chose to go with a homestay which provided a great start, but I was ready to give living in the U.S. on my own a try. The first significant step of my winter break was moving out and embracing independence. It was a blend of nerves and excitement as I embarked on this new life. Little did I know, the future that awaited me would be beyond my imagination.

One of the delights of my new life has been my roommate — a perfect balance of humor and intellect. We share more than just our living space; we also share stories, laughs, and on occasion, even food. I have been sharing my culture with her, making Japanese foods such as Okonomiyaki, salty pancakes, for her to try.

Creating Memories with My Friends

My winter break was about more than just settling into my new apartment; it was about spending quality time with friends. From hosting a s’more party by the campfire to enjoying karaoke nights in my room, every moment was filled with laughter. Our Lake Tahoe trip on Christmas Day, surrounded by breathtaking views and enjoying a super jumbo pizza and window shopping. It was a pure moment, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. At night, we prepared delicious cuisine on a table including the best beef stew ever.

Seattle: A Culinary and Cultural Travel

The highlight of my winter break was no doubt the trip to Seattle. From savoring clam chowders and crab pot seafood to visiting the Chihuly Garden and Glass, every experience was a feast for the senses.

The University of Washington library evoked memories of Hogwarts, from the world of Harry Potter.

The 30-minute ferry ride from the downtown Seattle ferry terminal to Bainbridge Island offered us spectacular views of the city and puget sound, making my journey comfortable and memorable.

As my winter break came to an end and the new semester began, I reflected on the experiences, friendships, and memories created during this time. With the new year, I carry with me these special moments, knowing that the best is yet to come.
