Overview

Established in 1966, Tallahassee Community College serves over 14,000 credit students of all ages and ethnic backgrounds each year. Ranked among the top community colleges in the nation and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, TCC is a two-year, comprehensive community college. Its average class size of 25 students ensures successful teacher-student interactions. TCC's distinguished faculty members possess twice the national average in both doctoral degrees and years of experience; they are committed to creating a stimulating and intellectual atmosphere to prepare students for whatever career path they choose. Technology-driven classrooms, a state-of-the art library, computer labs and a newly-created academic support center, the Learning Commons, complement the academic environment.

Preparing all students to compete in a global market is a top priority at TCC. The College provides many ways to learn about other cultures, study abroad and enjoy workshops, performances and panel discussions on global themes. TCC welcomes international students, who are considered essential to global thinking on our campus, and offers them special opportunities to learn about American culture.

Location

TCC's home is in Tallahassee, capital of the beautiful State of Florida, or Sunshine State. It is nearer to Atlanta than Miami, in the Big Bend of northwest Florida's Panhandle. Tallahassee is "The Other Florida" in attitude, topography, climate and lifestyle. Rolling hills, moss-draped oaks, fragrant magnolia trees and grand plantation homes cover the landscape. The Georgia line is just 14 miles to the north, while the Gulf of Mexico is 25 miles south.

Tallahassee offers a wide array of restaurants, museums, parks and nearby Gulf beaches. Atlanta and Orlando, home of Walt Disney World and other attractions, are 4-5 hours away. As home to two major universities -- Florida State University and Florida A & M University -- Tallahassee is an ideal city in which to begin your college education.

Academic Programs

  • The Associate in Arts Degree (A.A.) is parallel to the first two years at a university. Students can complete the first two years of a bachelor's degree at TCC, and then transfer to their university of choice to complete the remaining two.
  • The Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) is a two-year technical program designed primarily for the student who is planning to enter the workforce on graduating from TCC.
  • Certificate programs offer year-long (or shorter) technical training in specific areas, from paramedic to manufacturing.
  • TCC offers the "English for Academic Purposes" course, designed for non-English speakers.

Student Activities

TCC offers a diverse and friendly student life with a wide range of extracurricular activities and student organizations. International students are encouraged to join the International Student Organization (ISO), which provides them with opportunities to meet friends from all over the world including the United States, improve their communication and leadership skills and mentor other students. ISO also provides scholarship opportunities. A widely-acclaimed Model United Nations program, theatre program and student government association are among many student options.
