Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) was founded in 1992 and is a small, private accredited U.S. junior college affiliated with the Tokai University Educational System (TES) of Japan. HTIC is located in the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii, within walking distance from Waikiki.

HTIC values multiculturalism, service learning, and community involvement. We encourage students to apply what they learn in the classroom to the outside community by going on field trips, engaging in a cultural experience such as living with a student from another country, and doing volunteer work. We strive to create “a classroom without walls.”

Associate of Arts (A.A.) in Liberal Arts (LA) Program:
The LA program provides students with a broad, general education. This 60 credit program serves as a gateway for students who plan to transfer on to a four-year university in the United States or Japan. Our A.A. program will introduce students to various fields of knowledge, including the arts and humanities, language, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics. Some students may choose to achieve an American A.A. degree as their final educational goal and pursue technical studies or employment after graduation. HTIC follows a quarter system but students earn semester credit hours due to the number of contact hours per course. Most credits can be transferred to a 4-year university.

College Preparatory (CP) Program:
Our intensive English as a Second Language program will prepare students for our Liberal Arts program and continued higher education in the United States. Students will take academic English classes for college level study from our supportive and knowledgeable faculty. There are 5 core levels offered and students who complete the CP program will receive a “certificate of completion” and qualify to apply for admission to the Liberal Arts program.

On-campus housing:
HTIC is the only two-year college on the island of Oahu that provides on-campus housing. We offer safe, clean, air-conditioned, double or triple occupancy rooms with a private bath, closets, telephone, refrigerator, and wireless internet for a nominal fee. All rooms have views of downtown Honolulu, Waikiki, Manoa, or Diamond Head. A residential advisor lives on-site and security personnel are on duty 24 hours a day for the privacy and security of our students. The housing cost is approximately $2,420 per term.

Student Services:
The friendly staff in the Office of Student Services can help with issues relating to admissions and recruitment, registration, housing, planning extracurricular activities, and volunteer opportunities. They also can advise you on immigration, academics or transfer options.

Learning Center:
The Learning Center includes the library and two computer labs. The library has a wide collection of books, videos, maps, CDs, newspapers, and journals. Our librarian is always ready to answer questions and tutors are available to help students with homework, writing papers, or preparing for exams. The library and computer labs are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Students from all over the world have graduated from Hawaii Tokai International College. The majority of our alumni have transferred to four-year universities and many have continued on to graduate schools. We look forward to having you study with us at Hawaii Tokai International College!
