Where Can I Study English in Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles, California (LA) is known as the center of the film and television industry. Many international students recognize Los Angeles for its iconic Hollywood sign. LA hosts a variety of industries such as medicine, technology, gaming, fashion music, education, research and more. The warm and sunny climate makes it a popular destination for international students to study English. Here are five programs we’ve highlighted where you can study English in Los Angeles, California.

California State University, Los Angeles

The English Language Program (ELP) at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) provides students with English courses year-round focusing on grammar, writing, listening, reading, speaking and preparation for academic courses. Summer sessions are 10 weeks long and begin in late May and end in early August. All sessions prepare students for the TOEFL or IELTS exam. Beginning in the fall of 2016, the ELP will be offering longer sessions. The fall 2016 will be 16-week intensive session with classes starting in late August and spring 2017 session starting in late January.

East Los Angeles College

The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at East Los Angeles College provides students credit courses in learning the English language. The program is offered in six units: reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary and academic preparation. In addition, they also offer a course in English used in the business environment.

Los Angeles City College

Los Angeles City College’s English in Los Angeles (ELA) program provides students with affordable comprehensive English education for all levels. Sessions are offered every month of the year. Students attend classes for 20 hours per week for 4 weeks. Each session is four weeks long. In addition, they also offer a TOEFL preparation course.

Los Angeles Valley College

Los Angeles Valley College offers students continuing education in English language, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. They cater to all levels of English speakers. They also offer specialized classes in speech and listening, and U.S. history and government. Completion of a course culminates in a certificate of completion.

University of Southern California

University of Southern California (USC) provides students the opportunity to learn English at their Intensive English Language Program (IEP). USC’s IEP classes allows students to engage their interests while learning English. Students have the opportunity to take elective courses and language labs focused on their interests. Students attend classes for 20 hours a week and have plenty of opportunities to continue their education with conversation groups with American University of Southern California students.
