FSU Bridge Program, empowering language skills and cultural understanding

Kornelius Glossanto

Kornelius Glossanto: Spring 2023 Bridge Program Student.

Hello, my name is Kornelius Glossanto, and I come from Indonesia. I joined the AELP at Framingham State University in January 2023. Prior to my time in the United States, I obtained a bachelor's degree in literature and a master's degree in cultural studies back in my home country.

Currently, I am affiliated with the Xaverian Missionaries congregation and spent nearly three years serving in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Given my new assignment in the United States, it is crucial for me to further enhance my English language skills, which is precisely why the FSU Bridge Program fills my needs.

Language acquisition goes hand in hand with cultural understanding and through the Bridge Program, our instructors not only provide English language instruction but also familiarize us with the intricacies of American culture, particularly the academic environment. At first, I felt nervous about making mistakes, especially when speaking in front of a large audience. However, thanks to the determined support of our encouraging teachers, I have managed to conquer this fear.

Ultimately, the experience of learning English alongside new friends from diverse countries has been nothing short of incredible, and this program has played a vital role in facilitating such enriching connections.
